Every business needs to handle certain functions to be successful. Managing money, making sure the building / offices are safe and systems are working, computers are working as well as networks and websites, and potential customers learn about the business. But if you are a small business with few employees, it is difficult to manage all of that while doing the work of your business. That’s where Core Support Partners comes in. They provide small businesses a full “staff” of people who can handle payroll and bookkeeping, manage IT / computer support, handle all the marketing for the business, make sure the building is taken care of and doesn’t have issues, and manage the human resources functions which makes sure employees are taken care of and all laws are followed in letting people go or hiring.

How did the business start?

Matt Marquard and Jason Stevenson can be described as serial entrepreneurs. They understand how businesses run and find products and services not currently available and fill that need. But when looking at their own business, they realized they were paying a number of different people to provide a variety of services including handling payroll, helping with their computer support, working on their marketing, and more. They knew they weren’t the only small business who needed that support, so they launched Core Support Partners where they brought all the service providers together under one umbrella. Now, small business owners could work with one company and pick and choose what services they need to be more efficient and spend their time doing the work they need to make their business successful.
What challenges are you facing?

The business launched in August of 2022 and really started ramping up in the summer of 2023 so it is a very new business. Getting the word out to small business owners is a challenge because the reason they need us is because they are overworked trying to do everything themselves so they don’t get to meet new people as often as they like. It is also a new concept for a lot of business owners as they are used to working directly with a bookkeeper or an IT professional. Having it all in one place can be different enough for them that they don’t realize all the ways we can help.
Where are your customers and suppliers located?

The majority of our customer base is in Northeast Ohio but we do have clients in Arizona and Kansas City. We are working to grow our presence in Northeast Ohio as we can meet with clients and see them face-to-face but we could provide the services to anyone in the world.
Does your company focus on any sustainability efforts?

Much of our work is remote and many of our team are outside the area. Because of that, we have to be paperless so everyone has access to all the information they need. Having a remote team means our employees aren’t typically driving into an office every day, cutting down on emissions. And we also recycle in our office in Medina.
How does your business interact with government?

Typically we don’t interact directly with government, but in helping our clients keep records and do things they are expected to do by the government. Our bookkeeping team has to manage the client’s money and file taxes while Human Resources needs to make sure employee records are managed properly. Our IT support folks also have to be well-versed in cyber security to keep records safe and legal.
How does someone get a job with you?

We typically need skilled workers with experience either in bookkeeping or IT. To find those people we post on our website and Indeed, Linkedin and the chambers of commerce.
Why do employees like to work here?
Our work environment is very flexible. You can work where you want and often when you want. We encourage our team to be part of their community and get involved in organizations at all levels. We are also a startup so we get to decide as a team how we want to handle things and what our policies and procedures are. We are literally building our culture to be what we want as employees and that is really exciting!
