Lots of different rules and laws exist for businesses. Since the 1860’s, Critchfield, Critchfield, and Johnston have been helping businesses with their needs. When someone starts a business, there are many rules to follow and they have to make many decisions. When two people or businesses make a deal, it is called a contract. When a company hires a person to do a job in their company, there are laws they have to follow. If something goes wrong, the company needs to know what to do. Critchfield, Critchfield, and Johnston lawyers can help businesses follow rules and solve problems. Believe it or not, the best attorneys keep their clients from having to go to court!

How did the business start?

CCJ Sign from the beginning

The Critchfield’s were two attorneys, a father and son, who started their business around 1865. They were both named Lyman! Back then, they did whatever kind of law anyone needed – like defending people in trouble with the law for doing something bad or sorting out arguments about who owned land. But over the years they decided to focus only on business law. By the 1950’s we were doing much of what we do today, including special areas of law like business, employment, estate planning, and real estate.

There is a big push right now to get young people to consider careers in manufacturing instead of going to college. But we have awesome jobs in our offices for people who don’t want to go to college but would rather be inside at a desk rather than on their feet all day. The jobs are interesting and different every day, so you don’t get bored. Plus, we offer good perks and a happy workplace!

We take privacy very seriously, so if we need to get rid of papers with important information, we use a special service that shreds and recycles the materials. We also reuse paper that we can for scrap paper and don’t buy anything that can only be used one time.

How does your business interact with government?

We talk to the County Treasurer and the County Recorder often because they deal with property information, and we help a lot of our clients buy and sell homes and other kinds of buildings. We work hard to build good relationships with elected officials, so they know who we are and if we need something for a client, they take our calls.

How does someone get a job with you?

We hire new people by posting our job openings on our website and other websites where people go to look for jobs. We also get referrals from staff, which is awesome, but what’s really flattering is when we get referrals from our clients. That means they enjoy working with us so much that they send their friends and family to work here too!

Why do employees like to work here?

We have a very collegial atmosphere which means we have shared responsiblity and a spirit of good feelings, or camaraderie. We support our employees with challenging work and the resources to be sure they will be successful and then time off and balance so they can recharge and come back ready for the next project. We also are really into snacks!
